Sweet-and-Sour Broken Radishes

Radishes – daikon, black and occasionally red – are another northern-Chinese salad favourite.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 tbsp  (22 mL)  rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp  (10 mL)  light soy sauce
  • 1-1/2 tsp  (7 mL)  granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp  (2 mL)  salt
  • 2 bunches red radishes
  • 2 tsp  (10 mL)  toasted sesame seeds

Preparation

In bowl, stir together vinegar, soy sauce, sugar and salt. With side of knife, flatten each radish until broken but still in one piece; add to bowl and toss to coat.

Refrigerate for 30 minutes or for up to 8 hours. Toss; sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Makes 6 to 8 servings.
