Sangria Burgers

The wine, brandy and subtle orange flavour of these burgers will please adult palates. Top with slices of roasted sweet red pepper.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb  (250 g)  lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb  (250 g)  lean ground pork
  • 1/3 cup  (75 mL)  minced fresh coriander
  • 3 tbsp  (45 mL)  dry red wine
  • 2 tbsp  (30 mL)  Brandy
  • 2 tbsp  (30 mL)  extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed or minced
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 1/2 tsp  (2 mL)  salt
  • 1/4 tsp  (1 mL)  each cayenne and black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp  (1 mL)  grated orange rind

Preparation

In bowl, mix together beef, pork, coriander, wine, brandy, oil, garlic, onion, salt, cayenne, pepper and orange rind. Form into 4 patties. Grill, covered and turning once, over medium-high heat until no longer pink inside or digital thermometer inserted sideways into centre reads 160F/71C. Makes 4 servings.
