3 ways to pursue your dreams

It offers stress relief, satisfaction, and the excitement of a versatile life: balance is a well-sought-after commodity in today's fast-paced days of appointments, work engagements and family time. But sometimes life becomes unbalanced and we commit more time and energy to work rather than family and vice versa. Where balance is concerned, we all have boundaries that alert us when it's time to even the scales. We asked readers how they manage to live a well-balanced life. Here is a selection of your stories. One step at a time
I ensure that I walk almost every evening as a means of relaxing and to allow myself time to think. I also like to regroup with my family and sometimes, when I realize that its been a while since we did anything together, I make time to have a game of family Scrabble or Crazy 8s with my son. If needed, I pull back from giving my all, and take a weekend in the country with no computer and no phone -- that does wonders for one's sanity!
Patricia Parsons, Gander, Nfld.

Body-and-soul care
To live a well-balanced life I simply eat lots of fresh vegetables, at least two apples a day, drink 1.5 litres or more of water, get on my bike and do the trails at least every other day for a minimum of one hour. And last, but not least, say a prayer as often as I can!
Anna Prendergast

Take pleasure in the simple things
My secrets to a balanced life are having faith in God, having piles of fun with my children, keeping the spark alive with my husband and finding the extraordinary in all things common. A man who used to work with me summed it up when he told me one day, "You know what I love about you? You get excited about the smallest things." What a compliment! Oh yeah, and never forget to laugh. Laugh until the tears run down your cheeks at least twice a day!
