How to use a hair diffuser: Anti-frizz tips and 5 do's and don'ts

How do you prevent diffused hair from going frizzy?
Open cuticles on the hair strand can cause hair to look dull and frizzy. Anti-frizz products are key in preventing frizz as they are formulated to help smooth the cuticle layer. When applying products, remember not to create too much movement in your hair to avoid opening hair cuticles and tangles. The less you fuss with it, the better your chances of avoiding frizz.

Most blow dryers have a cool air setting. While diffusing, use the cool air setting during the last few minutes of drying. The cool air will help to seal the cuticle layer and reduce frizz.

Ready to get the look? Before you get started, heed these helpful hints for getting it just right. Here's what Marc Anthony advises:

- Diffused hair should have a natural finish to it. Don't over work your hair; do let it take the shape it wants to naturally.

- Work with the natural movement of your hair. Use curl- or wave-enhancing products to help your natural curls or waves to form.

- Use anti-frizz products to prevent frizz and tangles, and boost shine.

- If you have a few bits that don't curl as well, take a large barrel curling iron to add a couple of curls and give the shape overall symmetry. Keep in mind that this look is meant to be natural in finish, so don't over-curl it. Select random sized sections of hair to curl and, with each section, alternate the direction of the curling iron to prevent it from looking too uniform.

- Use a light spritz of hairspray that has a flexible hold to keep the frizz at bay and lock the style in place. Don't use too much hair spray because it will stiffen the look, taking away its natural appeal.

If you want to dress your look up a bit, Marc Anthony suggests accomplishing this with your clothing and makeup. "Add a coat of mascara and a wonderful splash of colour to your lips, but leave your hair as is," he says. "This is a fun summer look, so don't over work it!"
