Grilled Ham and Cheese Club
Ingredients
- 3 small wheat-flour tortillas or slices whole wheat bread
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) mango chutney or Branston pickle
- 1/3 cup (75 mL) grated Cheddar cheese
- 1 thick slice Black Forest ham, about 2 oz (60 g)
- 3 tomato slices
- 1 tsp (5 mL) butter
Preparation
Spread tortillas on countertop. Spread chutney evenly over each tortilla. Sprinkle some of the cheese evenly over chutney and top one tortilla with slice of ham. Sprinkle a little more cheese over the ham.
Top with another tortilla and sprinkle a little more cheese over top. Lay tomato slices on top and add salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle remaining cheese over top. Stack last tortilla, chutney-side-down, on top. Cut in half.
Melt butter in a non-stick skillet set over medium heat. Place stacked sandwich halves in pan. Cook for about 3 minutes. Turn, using tongs or an egg lifter.
Cook for 2 minutes longer or until nicely toasted on each side and cheese is melted. Slice into triangles.
Makes 1 to 2 servings.
Tip: Try grilling this sandwich on the barbecue for a deeper flavour and great-looking grill marks.
