Green Beans with Garlic

Steaming the garlic along with the beans makes for a very mild but rich garlic flavour. You can get the beans and garlic ready in the pot a couple of hours before cooking.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb  (500 g)  green or yellow wax beans
  • 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tsp  (2 mL)  salt
  • 1 tbsp  (15 mL)  butter or extra-virgin olive oil

Preparation

Trim beans. Place in steaming basket set over pot of water (or place in saucepan filled 1 inch/2.5 cm deep with water); cover with garlic and sprinkle with salt. Steam on high heat until beans are tender-crisp, about 7 minutes. Drain and toss with butter.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.
