Lutein is a nutritional superstar that is commonly found in dark, leafy greens. Technically a carotenoid, which is responsible for the colour in vegetables, lutein works as an antioxidant in our bodies and research indicates it reduces the risk of a common eye disease — age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which can cause blindness.
