Buttermilk Or Kefir Pear Smoothie
This pear smoothie is delicious. Buttermilk is low-fat (generally 1%) and nutritious, and so is kefir, a Russian-style fermented milk product (available at large grocery and health food stores).
1 large ripe pear, peeled, cored and chopped
buttermilk or kefir
Toasted Wheat Germ (see below)
Blend together pear, buttermilk or kefir, wheat germ and honey.
Makes 1 serving.
Toasted Wheat Germ In dry skillet, toast 1/4 cup/60 mL wheat germ over medium heat, shaking pan and stirring often, until fragrant and golden, 4 to 6 minutes; let cool. (Make-ahead: Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 month.)
