Product: Campbell’s Stock First Cream Stock
Campbell’s has come up with a lower-fat version of homemade cream stock. They have three varieties for the home cook: Chicken Stock, Beef Stock and Cream Stock (as seen in the picture).
The good: This is a premium tasting cream stock that contains no artificial colours or flavours, is gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians. It’s easy to use — all you have to do is open and pour. It has a resealable lid letting you use a small or large amount when you want to. Store any leftovers in the fridge and use within 5 days of opening.
The not-so-good: Although it’s lower in fat than a homemade cream sauce, it does contains 400 mg of sodium per 1/2 cup (125 mL) serving. My advice — a little goes a long way, so just have a small serving and indulge your taste buds.
What you can eat it with: Add the cream stock to pasta, vegetable, fish or rice dishes.
Bottomline: A great way to dress up a dish for a special occasion. Put this product under the splurge-without-the-guilt category and enjoy.
