5 Ways to Reenergize Your Aerobic Exercises

Dread your 40 minutes of cardio? You're not alone. "Exercising is tough work and may not be the most exciting activity you have in your schedule, so don't make it hard on yourself. There are a plethora of options that are motivating, encouraging and fun," says Eva Redpath, a certified group fitness expert and personal trainer.

Get the results you want and minimize boredom with these five tips to make your workout more exciting.

1. Join a class
Take advantage of the support and camaraderie of a community. "Group fitness is motivating and can be the perfect addition to any workout routine lacking excitement," says Redpath. "Those who exercise in groups sustain greater motivation to train than those who work out alone. Don't isolate yourself if you don't have to."

2. Motivate with the right music
A killer cardio workout has to have a soundtrack to match. Put together a playlist that works with your needs and your motivation will soar. "I always choose an upbeat track for pushups. The energy in the song helps to get me through the duration of the exercise," says Redpath. "For my core, I select a slow acoustic track to help me focus on my breathing and correct form." Don't forget to match the vibe of your cooldown with chill music, too.

3. Make it social
"Schedule a weekend walk or run with a friend and plan a healthy lunch date to reward yourselves afterward," says Redpath. "It's a great way to socialize and exercise all at once." You definitely won't skip your workout, and what's more, friends can help support you as you set new fitness goals.

4. Change your routine often
"Changing up your routine, working out with a personal trainer or partner or trying a new class can help you stay enthusiastic and motivated," says Redpath. Expanding the variety of fitness activities you enjoy and feel comfortable doing will ensure that you have a workout option to match any mood.

5. Reward yourself
Working toward a reward will help you reinvigorate your workouts. "In order to motivate yourself to achieve your goals, reward yourself and celebrate," says Redpath. Even better, choose a series of small rewards for each step you take toward your overall goal. "Remember that enjoying the journey leads to the fulfilment of the destination," says Redpath.
